As the title clearly states, Toni Morrison's latest opus, Love, is a story about just that: love, in all it's assorted varieties -- familial, romantic, self, perverted, platonic and tough. And while the preface suggests a story "that shows how brazen women can take a good man down," what Morrison delivers is a vivid and stirring account of the turmoil. There's no escaping love in Toni Morrison's novels: it's a difficult, complicated, ferocious force that runs like a deep and turbulent river through all her fiction, sometimes transporting and sometimes destroying people. It's no wonder her own characters cry out against it. Love is Toni Morrison at her best. I saved this title for last, in my reading of her cannon. A rewarding choice.
